Godmother
Godmother; a woman who presents a child at baptism and promises to take responsibility for their religious education.
Oxford Dictionary
What are the responsibilities of a Godmother? The Godmother’s main task was to promise to care for the child should the parents die or become otherwise incapable of bringing them up (remember, illness was far more common in those days; and people didn’t live as long as they do today).

A godmother is a woman who’s a godparent — a person who has pledged to help with the upbringing of a child, especially in a religious way. In some denominations of Christianity, when a child is baptized, they are sponsored by (usually two) adults who pledge to help in this way.

A godmother is a female godparent in the Christian tradition. Godmother may also refer to: A female arranged to be legal guardian of a child if untimely demise is met by the parents.

This is the info one would come across when using the Google search engine, or maybe common sense. And although I define it as “the same”, what is expected of the woman I appoint as godmother is slightly different; and/or entails a little more.
